What website maintenance costs in India, and what it should actually cover.
Most website quotes go quiet about the renewal invoice. Ours do not have one: hosting, SSL, backups and security are included with the website, not billed as separate website maintenance charges. Here is exactly what that covers, what is quoted to the work instead, and why quotes for the same words range from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000.
The number that turns up after you have already paid
Most website quotes in India cover the build and go quiet about what happens next. Twelve months later there is a renewal invoice, and it is the first time anyone has mentioned it.
So: our business websites include hosting, SSL, backups and security (a Shopify store is hosted on your own Shopify plan). There is no separate hosting, care or renewal charge.
What is included
Two different things, and most people only need the first
Hosting, SSL, backups and security are included with the website. That keeps the site alive — with no separate charge and no renewal invoice. If your site does not change much, this is all you want.
Website management is quoted to the work. Same keep-alive, plus we are actively maintaining and updating the site for you month to month — new content, changed pages, ongoing edits, without you asking twice. It is for a site that keeps moving. Monthly services have no minimum term.
Quotes are plus GST. You do not need management to keep the site running. If you are not sure, start with what is included and we will tell you honestly when the volume of changes has outgrown it.
Where we charge extra, said before you buy rather than after
Two things sit outside what is included, and we would rather be blunt about them now.
- A substantial change is a job, not maintenance. A new section, a redesign, a catalogue restructure — those get quoted before we start. Maintenance covers keeping what exists working and current, not building what does not exist.
- Recovery from a hack, where restoring a backup is not enough. If the site is compromised and a clean restore fixes it, that is included — that is what the backups are for. If it needs more than that, we quote the repair. We would be lying if we said an unlimited incident response fits inside a monthly management fee, and an agency that says it does has either not thought about it or does not intend to honour it.
What it does not cover, said plainly
New pages, a redesign, and search marketing are all separate and quoted to the job. We keep them out deliberately: a maintenance fee that quietly includes "some SEO" is how people end up paying a monthly retainer for work nobody can point to.
Your domain is also not in it — about ₹900 to ₹1,500 a year, registered in your name and paid to your registrar. We do not hold client domains. If we held yours and it lapsed, your business would go dark and that would be our fault. We watch the expiry and warn you in good time, but the account stays yours.
Why the market range is so wide
You will see Indian maintenance quotes anywhere from ₹5,000 to ₹50,000 a year, and the reason is that maintenance is not a defined product. One company means hosting and nothing else. Another means hosting plus unlimited content edits. A third is quietly including a content retainer. Before comparing two numbers, make both of them list what is actually covered — the cheaper one is often cheaper because it does less, and occasionally because it does nothing at all.
If you already have a site somewhere else
We will take over maintenance on a site we did not build, quoted to the work, once we have looked at it and confirmed it is in a state we can responsibly keep running. Sometimes it is not, and we will tell you that rather than take the fee and inherit the problem.

What is the website maintenance cost per month in India?

Agencies quoting a monthly maintenance retainer are usually bundling in content or SEO work, which is a different thing being sold under the same word.
What does website maintenance actually include?
Ours covers hosting on our server, the SSL certificate, backups and security, including patching. Changes — a phone number that changed, a price that moved, a paragraph that needs adding — are quoted to the work, and so are new pages, a redesign or an SEO campaign, so you are never paying a retainer for work that is not happening.

What is not included in website management?
Two things, and we say so up front rather than at invoice time. A substantial change — a new section, a redesign, a catalogue restructure — is a job and gets quoted before we start. And if the site is hacked and restoring a clean backup does not fix it, the repair beyond that is quoted. A clean restore is included, because that is what the backups are for. Nobody can honestly fit unlimited incident response inside a monthly management fee.
Do I own my website and accounts?
Yes. Every account and asset is in your name from day one and we hand over everything on request. There is nothing to buy back and nothing held hostage.
Is the domain included with the website?
No, and it should not be. Your domain is registered in your name and you pay your registrar directly, usually ₹900 to ₹1,500 a year. We deliberately do not hold client domains — if we held it and it lapsed, your business would go dark and it would be our fault. We do watch the expiry date and warn you well before it.
Do I have to keep maintenance with the company that built the site?
No. Your accounts and assets are in your name, and if you would rather move maintenance to someone else or run it in-house we hand everything over. Monthly services have no minimum term.
Why do I need maintenance at all?
Because a website is not a thing you buy once. It has to stay hosted, keep a valid security certificate, get patched against new vulnerabilities and get backed up. A site left alone for two years is not a saving — it is a site that will eventually break, get defaced, or quietly disappear when the hosting lapses.
Building, or looking after one you already have?
A new website is ₹50,000 + GST up to 20 pages, or from ₹1,00,000 + GST for an ecommerce store. A website comes with hosting and goes live a minimum of 7 days after we have your content and sign-off; a store's timeline is agreed in writing with the scope (on Shopify, the store is hosted on your own Shopify plan). If the site already exists, tell us where it is and we will say honestly whether we can take it on.
